Escort me to my table

Escort Cards.

They are essential to help the guests to find their table for the night. With so many cool ideas out there, it is hard to choose just one.

My 1st inspiration came from Martha [Stewart] and it wasn't an escort card at all,

it was a place card placed at the table. I was going to do this and then make a Large board listing all the tables for people so they could examine it during cocktail hour and know which table to go to, but then i scratched that idea.

I had cut out a ton of butterflies for my last lantern project, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it again for the cards. Plus, I wondered if it would be a little too much.

I want a touch of butterflies, not an overwhelming amount.

After contemplating what to do, I found some wicked cool paper at AC Moore during a 40% off sale, so I bought enough of it to have [and then some--I didn't want to run out of supplies like I seem to do for all my projects] for the place cards I was thinking up in my head.

I got to work making the standard, run of the mill cards.
Please excuse my poor picture taking skills and the flash.

First I made a sample one to measure everything, measuring is not usually something I do, but I knew this was essential to the making of the cards. I cut the main cards out of the watercolor paper I had and scraps I had saved from a previous project.

Second, I printed the names and table numbers on the front of the card, while on the back I printed the meal choice they had chosen(a requirement from the place we are having the reception).

Then I cut a strip of fun paper 1"x4," lined it up correctly in my butterfly puncher and punched some butterflies out and then glued it down on the card using some scrapbook glue I found in my bucket of crafts downstairs.

There are three different cards, one silver paper, one pink paper, and one turquoise paper. The turquoise is for the beef meal choice, the pink for the chicken, and the silver for the pork.

I thought it would be a fun way to bring some more color into the reception area.

These were really easy to do but very time consuming. I was surprised at how long it took to make the escort cards. What project surprised you in your wedding planning?
